Alex Monroe Jewellery
Alex Monroe is a London-based jeweller with over 25 years’ experience of making and designing jewellery.
Her pieces are strongly influenced by the great outdoors as well as a sprinkling of British eccentricity.
The end result is a collection which is set apart by its elegance and whimsy.
Alex herself has loved the natural world from a very young age when he grew up in the Suffolk countryside.
This bond with nature can be easily seen in her jewellery work, with pieces influenced by wildlife, flora and fauna.
She then went on to train at the Sir John Cass art school in London before embarking on her jewellery making career in 1986 out of her own tiny workshop in South London, which is where her pieces are still made to this day, by a small team of expert jewellers.
All of Alex Monroe’s pieces are made using traditional jewellery-making techniques and he sometimes even crafts her own tools to use in the process.
Alex then works directly in silver to begin creating the piece. She uses silver instead of wax because to achieve the high levels of detail and texture that her pieces have become renowned for.
The Alex Monroe brand has come a long way since she started out in that workshop and her pieces are now sold across the world in world-famous stores such as Harrods, and of course, here at Wave Jewellery.
Alex herself has also worked on big projects with institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Legion, Penhaligon’s, Burt’s Bees and Kew Gardens. She also won the titles of designer of the at the 2008 UK Jewellery Awards.
One of Monroe’s most recognisable designs is the bumblebee necklace which has been seen on the likes of Emma Watson and Sienna Miller and is quickly becoming their trademark, but you can also expect to see the likes of hummingbirds, flowers and butterflies and any other manner of countryside creatures in their timeless designs. We love Alex Monroe’s wonderfully quirky and quintessentially English designs here at Wave and are proud to stock a great range of necklaces, rings, bracelets and more.
